There were fireworks in our neighborhood, parades of beeping cars and cheering citizens.
Our friend is French and called his family in France right after PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA's acceptance speech, not caring if he woke them up.
And you know what? They were already up, they woke up early to watch The Speech.
The world is watching us, and today I am proud.
"To those Americans whose support I have yet to earn -- I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too."

I am so beyond proud. It's a good day.
Such fantastic news :-)
You know the most historic thing I will remember about today? Bush gave a speech that MADE ME CRY! And not because he was SO SO AWFUL, but because he was so positive and spot-on about civil rights. I know, yadda yadda, right? But it was a good speech and underscored the fact that it is a new face for America. Even on GW.
SQUEEEEEEEE!
lasagna + friends + democracy = delicious
I'm going to skip the political and go straight to what's really important: that lasagne looks delicious.
I cried too!!! And I feel proud..the first time in, I can't remember when.
Oh, it was a VERY special time.
Cheers!
me too!
Isn't this just an incredible time. It's amazing! I'm so proud and so emotional. And I sooo wish I'd taken pictures of the tv! ;)
It's the first time I've been proud of us in quite a while.
@ Rebekah: I totally welled up, too, and, as with McCain's speech last night, wondered where the hell this guy has been. We as a nation would not so badly need the healing that Obama is already bringing had they not so determinedly worked to drive us apart from one another.
Nora Bee, thank you for being part of my last night. Thank you for being the person I wanted to share this with.
I am going to get teary over this for a long time to come and I am not going to feel ashamed one bit when those tears prick my lashes. Yes, we are.
It is so wonderful.
Cheers!!
And isn't it a great feeling, to feel proud to be an American? Its been a l.o.n.g. 8 y.e.a.r.s.
I was filled with joy, I too called sisters, brothers, and parents back in California, we cried we laughed, but outside my door you could have heard a pin drop......except when I ran out on the porch and yelled "Yes, we did" Fortunately there was no volley of rotten tomatoes.
We here in the Netherlands, 80% of us, are very happy. We congratulate all of you. It must feel very good now to be an American finally again.
History in the making and you have photos! You'' be telling your grandbabies about that night one day.
Glad it went your way.
NIcely done, neighbors!
Yep, we were all watching you. You fortunate people.
